New Smyrna DERMATOLOGY

Are you considering scheduling an appointment with a dermatologist in New Smyrna Beach? Are you unsure about what they do or the treatments they offer? Look no further! We'll explore the field of dermatology and shed light on two of the most common procedures: skin biopsies and moles. By understanding these treatments, you can make an informed decision and take control of your skin health.

What Does a Dermatologist Do?

Dermatologists are medical professionals who specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions related to the skin, hair, and nails. They are experts in diagnosing and treating a wide range of skin conditions.

Whether it's common issues like acne, rosacea, eczema, or psoriasis, or rare conditions such as autoimmune diseases or genetic disorders, dermatologists have the knowledge and skills to accurately diagnose and develop effective treatment plans tailored to individual patients. Let's dive deeper into what dermatologists do and the breadth of their expertise:

Skin Cancer Screening and Treatment

One of the critical roles of a dermatologist is identifying and treating skin cancer. At New Smyrna Wellness Center we conduct comprehensive skin cancer screenings to detect early signs of melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and other types of skin cancer.

Our doctors can also perform biopsies, surgically remove cancerous lesions, or recommend other appropriate treatments or targeted therapies.

Dermatology Surgical Procedures

If needed, we may perform excisions to remove skin lesions, cysts, or tumors, ensuring the optimal aesthetic outcome and minimizing scarring. Our doctors also specialize in reconstructive procedures to restore form and function after removing skin cancers or other growths.

Freezing of Moles (Cryotherapy)

At New Smyrna Wellness Center we commonly use a technique called cryotherapy or freezing to remove unwanted or suspicious moles. Cryotherapy involves applying liquid nitrogen or another freezing agent directly to the mole. The extreme cold temperature destroys the cells within the mole, causing it to freeze and eventually fall off.

This procedure is safe, effective, and typically leaves minimal scarring. Freezing of moles is often performed for cosmetic reasons or when a mole exhibits concerning characteristics that require further examination through a skin biopsy.
